A glass of anger

Raduan Nassar's short story consists of seven chapters. Seven glowing sentences, filled with tension, suppressed violence and eroticism. In the dialogue between the two characters, which sometimes turns into an internal monologue, the two characters are not only fighting a battle between man and woman, but also between the countryside and the city, between raw honesty and narcissistic posturing. In the novel, two worlds, two biased perspectives collide, while we gain a glimpse into the enormous contradictions of Brazilian society. Reason and emotion, passion and destructive anger, caustic mockery and turbulent emotions swirl in this chaotically pulsating, yet articulated prose poem, the kind that only the greats of world literature are able to create. Raduan Nassar (1935) is one of the most mysterious figures in modern Brazilian literature. His career spans barely nine years, and he surprised the world with only two larger-than-life, yet more powerful works (A Glass of Anger, Engraved in Stone).
